Lindsey1 002Lindsey Horstmann might be the newest member of Family Features’ sales team but her addition to our staff created a positive impact on the entire company. I had an opportunity to sit down with Lindsey and see what her new role included and how it affects the other teams here at Family Features.

Where did you attend college and what was your major?

I attended Truman State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a focus in Management.

Your role is new to Family Features. What does your average day look like?

I am getting the most traction by working through lists of contacts we have worked with in the past to learn where they are at, whether it’s with the same agency we’ve worked with before or a new one. I primarily use tools like LinkedIn to find people who are interested in our business and attempt to set up phone calls with the end goal being to draft proposals and prepare contracts. From there, I coordinate the next steps before eventually handing it over to our Content Development team.

What excites you or challenges you in this new position?

This is a completely new industry for me; I’m learning all about marketing and public relations. It’s very different than anything I have done before, and it’s exciting to learn how everything works. Plus, I like the variety of working with different marketing agencies because they all work with such an array of clients. I like how creative and collabortive the process is because it feels more like consulting - there is more of a conversation that takes place.

How would you describe Family Features’ work life and culture?

Very open and collabortive with great team work and communication.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Working out and trying new recipes. I just got a dog so I’m trying to train her. She’s a little dachshund so she’s pretty stubborn. It’s fun to catch up with my family and do fun things like going to Lego Land and Science City with my two nieces and two nephews.

What’s your favorite part about your role?

The flexibility; there isn’t a set, “You have to do this.” It’s an opportunity to work with our clients and come up with a way to convey their messages to consumers. I get to talk to people from across the country with all different backgrounds. Connecting with people is fun for me.

What motivates you?

My teammates have been very helpful while I’m learning the ropes. In the long run, I want us to be a unit where they look to me as the go-to person when there is a new business opportunity. Becoming an expert in what I do; that’s what is driving me at the moment. I would like to get to that place sooner rather than later.

Final thoughts?

I’ve enjoyed learning about different brands; there are so many out there. They are all trying to get their messages across so it’s interesting to see how we can be a fit for them. I love it when we are on a call and a client says something and I’m able to respond with “Oh, we can rock the heck out of that! You may not be sure how to get there, but we are definitely the solution.” That’s what really excites me!
