MISSION, KS (July 7, 2008) – Family Features Editorial Syndicate was presented with a USDA Agency Women-Owned Business Award for providing outstanding services to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Family Features' Senior Account Manager Terry Bustamante and President, Dena Strum Klein, received the award at the USDA Small Business and AbilityOne Award ceremony held at the USDA Whitten Building in Washington, DC on June 25. Family Features was acknowledged for "maintaining excellent communications and providing superior service to FSIS and the community." "It was an honor to be among 35 small businesses receiving awards from the USDA," said Klein.

Bustamante and Family Features worked with FSIS to develop and place a feature-length article appearing on the front pages of newspaper food and lifestyle sections, magazines and online news sites. The article discussed USDA food safety messages and included advice about avoiding food-borne illnesses by safely preparing the Thanksgiving meal. "This particular program resulted in hundreds of print and online media placements nationwide – allowing the USDA to reach millions of consumers with important safety tips," added Bustamante.
