Family Features began in 1974, when founder David Selders leveraged his thirty years of advertising experience to develop a unique PR service that merged subtle brand messaging with high quality editorial. By providing free, full-page editorial features to newspapers across the country, Selders created a valuable service that delivered high-impact editorial coverage and allowed sponsor companies to successfully market their products with measurable results and accountability.

The Early Years: Focus on Food
In the beginning, Family Features was rooted in the creation of full-page features designed for newspaper food sections. In the last decade, the company has expanded to provide content beyond food, such as lifestyle and home & garden, which broadens the appeal to a wider mix of print and digital media outlets, including large daily papers, local and suburban papers, regional magazines and hundreds of online sites.

Today, Family Features has evolved to provide not only full-page feature formats, but also short-form mat releases, columns, product roundups and the distribution of infographics. This has been possible due to ongoing operational improvements in the production and distribution process; thus enabling the company to produce and distribute 25-times the number of projects that were created forty years ago.
